Artist Statement
I am an illustrator, who specializes in creating work based on various Japanese animations, manga and video games, with inspiration also from American comic books. In the past, I would watch action-oriented shows and games, my interests have shifted to more psychological themes. In general, common themes in my work include mostly figures in various fantasy situations. Sometimes my work tells a story in a series or as individual images. My topics vary as they depend on what I am interested in at that moment for me to create a piece or series of pieces.
I usually invent my own characters and research different details. I also create my own stories behind the characters and write my own stories, often illustrating certain events or themes that take place in them. I don’t expect people to have read my stories, since I design each work to stand on its own, and use themes that people can research to find out about. The overall mood of my images range from cheerful to somewhat twisted, but with a fantasy theme to them. I also occasionally use a bit of blood and gore, but very slightly and not really as the overall subject of the image.
I tend to work in traditional drawing media, such as graphite, ink, marker and colored pencils on paper, especially Bristol board, though I have worked in other media such as pastels, watercolor, sculpture, printmaking and acrylic paints. Most of my work is done in black and white, however I have been more recently creating finished works in color. I also work in digital media such as Adobe Photoshop, and Clip Studio Paint to paint images.
